Alec Smith MAIBC Principal

Alec received a Master of Architecture Degree (with distinction) from Dalhousie University in 1998. He worked in London for 2 years and then from 2000 - 2007 worked on a number of prominent public projects around the Lower Mainland. He became a principal at SHAPE Architecture in 2007. In addition to his broad design and technical experience, he has a specialty expertise in aquatics and community centre design.  This experience reveals his conviction that public architecture is the expression of civic and social values. Alec enjoys bringing his passion for architecture to the public process of realizing complex public and post secondary projects building consensus among the diverse stakeholders. He recently completed an adjunct professorship at the University of British Columbia School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture where he taught design theory and in the summer of 2011 served on the jury of the American Architecture Awards.
